Sara Ruffin
Sara discovered yoga at a young age and was instantly mystified by the ancient practice. After years as a competitive swimmer, Sara was initially drawn to yoga for the focus on breath control and internal discipline. Sara later grew to appreciate the stillness and self-awareness cultivated in her everyday life.
Today, Sara views yoga as a way of living – an integrated practice that enables the deepest levels of self-study, discipline, compassion, and being fully connected with the present moment. Sara credits yoga for transforming her life, creating steadiness and ease in the mind, while allowing her to heal from serious injuries to her shoulder and wrist. Sara believes that yoga is for everybody and she meets her students where they are. She loves sparking transformation within her students and watching them fly. Her classes have been described as passionate, fun, nourishing, and full of Shakti. She hopes every student will leave class connected to their own deep stillness within.
Whether living in San Francisco or Bogota, Colombia, Sara’s yoga practice remained the common thread that wove her formative years together. Yoga introduced a “home” within her body that she could return to any time. While in San Francisco, Sara began studying Jivamukti yoga, a branch of Hatha yoga, before moving to Los Angeles and studying Tantra Yoga at Yoga Madre. Sara completed her 200 hour teacher training with Rene Quenell at Yoga Madre and has continued into advanced studies with her 500 hour teacher training. Sara is very passionate about her personal yoga and meditation personal and loves introducing self-care, discipline, and awareness into her everyday life.
While off the mat, Sara is a consultant and is focused on international philanthropic work. She has returned to Colombia for five consecutive years, fundraising and building twelve homes, a sports field, and a children’s park outside of Bogota. She also loves creating art, nature, mathematics, and spending time with her husband and two French bulldogs.
